Education is a value-based and political tool widely used by States to strengthen their positions in the international arena. However, a number of emerging economies are experiencing difficulties in the education systems. Such countries include Venezuela. The main problems in the field of education in Venezuela are:
- insufficient funding and low salaries of teachers, which leads to their mass withdrawal from the education system;
- lack of financial and labor resources that affects the quality of education;
- the socio-economic crisis that has led to mass emigration, as a result of which millions of people, including families with children, have left the country.
To resolute these problems, in particular, within the framework of the social programs of the Bolivian Revolution, a number of Bolivian missions focused on the development of education sphere: Robinson Mission (primary education, including literacy), Ribas Mission (secondary education), Sucre Mission (higher education). These missions are aimed at improving the quality of education in Venezuela at all levels and combating the outflow of representatives of education and science abroad.
On the one hand, despite the unfavorable economic situation in Venezuela, the desire of young people to get an education remains strong. According to the 2010 data, more than 93% of the country's population aged 14 and over could write and read. However, since 2014, the country has faced a massive outflow of educated people to neighboring countries.
There are large scientific and educational foundations in the scientific fields of the country, but they do not involve local scientists in serious research. The main reasons are low wages and lack of professional prospects in the country.
During the seminar, an attempt will be made to provide an answer to the existing challenges and prospects for the development of the education system in Venezuela.
